REALTORS: Unfriended? 5 of the biggest blunders agents are making on Facebook

  • Be tactful with your content, become the master at social media engagement and keep it old school when it comes to proper grammar.
Did you know you could be killing your engagement with what you are sharing, posting or not posting? Make the most of your organic social media marketing with these key pointers. 1. Not sticking to the basics (think elementary school)  Realtor Houston Shelley said that her biggest pet peeve from other agents is the lack of grammar and punctuation from those in the industry. Shelley notes, “Realtors who use sale when they should use sell — nails on the chalkboard for me!” When it comes to marketing what is potentially the largest investment your seller has, do your clients a favor and ensure that your grammar is up to snuff. 2. The dreaded add-and-spam
Have some tact when strategically adding and upping your follower count. People love to support those they believe in and know regardless of the industry. Adding someone as a friend and immediately asking them to like your business page is the same as walking onto a car lot and being handed a contract on a car you haven’t had an opportunity to test drive. Give the person some time to see who you are, what you do and what value you can add to their life or career before you go in with the hard close on the business page. 3. Not putting a ring on it!  No, not that kind of ring! Engagement. People love when they receive engagement on social media, and statistics prove that the people who engage back are more likely to see your posts on their news feed. My former client, Becca Dubow, said that her biggest issue is, “people reading your stuff but never liking it! Trolls!” Rather than just scrolling through checking how your own content is performing, show genuine interest in how other people are doing. Plus that genuine care can turn into referrals. You can add kids’ birthdays, anniversaries, life events and other things to your database or to a greeting card service like Postable that will automatically send cards on those important dates. It’s just another way to consistently keep your finger on the pulse of your sphere. 4. Copying and pasting Are you the agent who shares that brand new listing to every group you belong to? Houston loan officer Melissa Bryan said, “A person posting the same thing to multiple groups … most of the groups seem to have the same members now … when you get four or five notifications about a person posting the same thing to all the groups, it makes you want to unfollow that person even if you like them.” Save the spam. “Create an eye-catching advertisement, and share it sporadically on the groups you belong to on Facebook,” Realtor Jorge Gonzales said. 5. #nofilter As the consummate professionals that we all are, remember that your client base may not have the same political, religious or ethical views that you do. Although your Facebook page and other social platforms may be your place to share “how you really feel,” remember that being a chameleon who adapts to any situation or client demographic may be best for your business. Put a filter on your social feed just like you do when you brew that morning pot of coffee. As you scroll through your social media feeds, what are the things that give you that major eye-roll moment? Source: inman.com
