These States Are the Most Senior-Friendly

Virginia is the top-ranked state for seniors, according to a new study produced by SeniorAdvice.com. The firm developed a SeniorScore to identify and measure the livability for seniors across the U.S. The rankings are calculated by factoring in more than 100 variables, including access to health care, the number of senior residents, recreation and leisure, finances, and more. The following 10 states had the highest SeniorScores and are known as the most senior-friendly:
  1. Virginia
  2. Hawaii
  3. Nebraska
  4. Oklahoma
  5. Kansas
  6. Maryland
  7. Florida
  8. Texas
  9. Arizona
  10. West Virginia
On a city level, topping the list for best large cities for American seniors are Oklahoma City, Okla.; Austin, Texas; Pittsburgh, Pa.; Louisville, Ky.; and Fort Worth, Texas. For smaller towns, the top places for seniors are: Gibson Island, Md.; Wheatland, Okla.; Villa Maria, Pa.; Crescent, Iowa; and St. Albans, Mo.
